Leaving Employment / Refunds
Refunds of Accumulated Contributions
If you terminate employment you have the option of leaving your employee contributions at MERS or requesting a refund. (Contributions left at MERS do not earn interest.) A refund of contributions forfeits the service credit you earned.
Refunded contributions may be rolled over to a qualified retirement account or sent directly to your bank account.
Refund Application Packet
The following documents must be submitted with the completed Refund Application Packet. The processing of your refund will be delayed if the required documents are not received with the application.
- A copy of your social security card
- A copy of your driver’s license (or other government issued ID)
- For a direct refund, either a voided check (pre-printed) for a checking account in the member’s name, or a bank issued direct deposit form
When will I receive my refund?
You must be terminated for thirty (30) days and our office must have your final contributions from your employer. Refunds are processed approximately on the 5th and 20th of each month. It may take between 45 – 60 day before your funds are deposited into your account.
